Bermondsey, Just south of the river from Tower Bridge, other than a few Victorian cottages the area is a mix of council estates, and warehouses of which more and more are being converted. Along Shad Thames, that runs parallel to the river there is a row of upmarket riverfront conversions, including The Cardamom Building and Cayenne Court amongst others, named after the spice trade history of the Docklands. The area is full of bars and restaurants, including four by Conran. Home to the Design Museum, Bermondsey is well known for its bohemian arty community, and there are many live/work schemes. You will find cheaper flats some above shops, towards the south side to Tower Bridge Road. Commuting to the city is fast and getting to the west End takes 20 minutes.
